There's a lot of talk about Rimmel's Wake Me Up and Match Perfection foundations but I don't see a lot of reviews on this particular one. I bought mine for about $12 on sale at Priceline. Currently it's usually priced at $17 but there's a 1/2 price promotion going on. I bought mine on a whim because I thought neither the Match Perfection or Wake Me Up would have suited my skin. My Guerlain foundation which I've loved, is a little too dark and orangey for my skin and I thought it was time for something natural and lighter in color.
As the name suggests, it's a long lasting foundation, which aims to stay on the face for 25 hours with no touch ups needed. Not that anyone would wear any makeup for that long.
The packaging itself is in a tube which is completely fine with me. Although even though it is 1 fluid ounce of product it looks very small and unappealing compared to the fresh Wake Me Up and Match Perfection foundation which are in glass packagings. It needs a vamp in its packaging because it's a very very very good foundation and it's a shame that at first glance people would look right past it.
The consistency is quite normal, not too thick not to thin either. It does have a scent which I find most Rimmel products do. I don't mind though. It also does not have SPF, which is good because it becomes easily transitioned into day and night events. I'd rather use a moisturizer with SPF and control the amount I put on. The color I bought was 100 ivory which is the lightest color with a pale yellow undertone. Fits my skin color perfectly. I use a brush to apply this foundation, it's super super blend-able. As with any skin moisturize first and your foundation will glide on. But with the foundation I'd say it's even more important to prep your skin beforehand because it has a very beautiful natural finish which allows the glow underneath to come through instead of having shimmer in the foundation. The look of this particular foundation ultimately relies on how good your skin is beforehand that is why it looks so natural. To me this is their true selling point. The coverage is quite good, I'd say it's a medium maybe even a full if you don't have too many blemishes. (I'm sorry I don't have a swatch of this on my skin!). Anyways I've got to go back to this finish of this foundation it is so gorgeous. Not too dewy or matte, it gives your skin a healthy, brighter, natural look. The feel of your skin is slightly tacky but not sticky it also feels quite soft. Once it settles, it feels like you have not got anything on.
Swatch of the product. It's definitely a lot lighter than what you see. I'd say it's beige/pale yellow foundation. Not orangey at all. |
As for the long lasting effects? It certainly lasts a long time. I don't even set this foundation because it feels so blended into the skin and I find it's staying power to be just as great. I'm not tame enough to wear this for 25 hours especially with my acne prone skin but from morning to evening, I find it stays really well. It looks just as good as when I put it on.
I'd recommend this to people with normal to dry skin. Funnily enough I've only realized my skin is not oily at all and was only compensating because my skin was so dehydrated. Which is why I find this foundation to sit better on my skin than my Guerlain since it's a matte foundation it didn't look great on dry skin at all. But this, it definitely my favorite right now for Winter and probably even onto warmer weather if I put SPF underneath.
I definitely think it's a great inexpensive foundation. It works just as good as high end ones. There's nothing to lose if you do try it!
Thanks for reading!!
