Hello today's review will be on the My Beauty Diary sheet masks in Black Pearl (that remind me of Yuri from SNSD haha). Sheet masks are the only masks I can use on my face as steam, mud and even cream masks break me out. They are very popular in Asia especially in Korea. Suzy from Miss A who is Korea's 'IT girl' says the reason her skin is so good is because she wears a sheet mask a night. Sheet masks are meant to add hydration and moisturizing properties whereas most masks tend to draw out impurities and sebum. If it's a sheet mask it will add to the skin, if it's something like a mud or steam mask it's meant to take away. Depending on what your needs and skin type is maybe you will suit one or the other, heck even both!
The My Beauty Diary masks are pretty popular and Black Pearl is their best-selling. I bought mine off Yesstyle but you can also buy it from Sasa. I chose to buy the 10 pack in which you get obviously 10 sheet masks but you can also buy them individually or buy packs that contain more than one type of mask.
The Black Pearl mask is meant to brighten, whiten and moisturize. What the term Black Pearl means is essentially what it's meant have in the mask. The Black Pearl is actually a shell found in the Southern Pacific Ocean which has hydrating properties that can leave the skin feeling moisturized and brightened.
There is also an ingredient called Cosphingo that is meant to retain water so your skin remains moisturized from deep within. Along with the Black Pearl essence and Vitamin C it also whitens the skin. Whitening doesn't mean turning dark skin into white skin. I feel like whitening is a pretty bad word to use, all it really means is that it will fade (whiten) spots. There is a full explanation of these points on the back of the box which you can feel free to read.
To apply just unravel the mask it is super wet so don't be alarmed. There are openings on the eyes mouth and nose so you can breathe and blink. The mask is very big and will fit on all shapes and sizes but there might be some ill-fitting areas where your eyes don't match up but it will fit. The mask won't fall off if you decide to walk around but it is best to lay down while it is on as it will start to move once it's drying up.
I leave my mask on for 15-20 minutes. I find it quite itchy after anything longer. Most people will leave it on until all the essence is absorbed onto the skin. Whatever is left on your face leave it to dry or pat it in. Personally when all the essence is gone I wash my face with water because there is still some sticky residue left.
Results! I have used 8 of these masks, one once a week. And I haven't really seen any major improvements. My skin is still red and spotty from acne and my skin doesn't feel hydrated for longer than a day after wearing it. There's nothing worse or better about my skin. What I did like was after the masks my skin was moisturized and radiant and the next day it felt nice too. If I have an event the next day this would be really nice to wear the night before.
Would I suggest it? Yes even though there was no difference it's very relaxing and soothing to wear sheet masks. It is good to have on hand for a skin pick me up. I think for people who don't have really stubborn scarring or redness and drier skin you will benefit from this mask more than I have. It's definitely worth having a look into.
