So I got this on a whim while strolling through Priceline and for $6AU I think this is a pretty good steal!
Essence is possibly the cheapest brand you can get in Australia. It's like the equivalent of ELF but we don't have ELF here, I'm sure you may have come across it as it does sell internationally. I was in need of a new eyeshadow palette and I thought this would be a good alternative to have before I splurge on something like a Naked or Nude Tude palette.
The packaging is quite handy and would be fantastic for traveling. The palette looks similar to a Nina Ricci one with the clear rectangular case with the same 2 rows by 4 of eyeshadow. It closes securely and the clear packaging makes it easier to spot colors to use. Although the silver embellishments aren't really my thing. It is quite small, about the length of my palm. It also comes with a dual ended brush with the typical sponge applicator and one with actual hairs.
It has 8 eyeshadows, from L-R, there's a pale gold, minky pink, dark cool brown with gold specks, slightly warmer dark brown, an orange, bronze gold, mid neutral brown and a light gunmetal shade. All colors are shimmery which plays with the sun club theme as your eyes will reflect with the sunlight. The range of colors are beautiful, perfect amount of light/dark and warm/cool colors. I was personally loving the orange and gunmetal shade which were colors I've wanted for awhile.
Now, actually swatching this on my arm, it had very little color pay off. The lighter shades were less noticeable and had lots of glitter. Applying this on my eye, the colors showed up A LOT better. Better than $6 in my opinion. It's still not the most fine, soft or pigmented eye shadows though. It claims to be long lasting and I'd say they last pretty well even with all the shimmers.
The most disappointing shade was the gunmetal shade as it had chunks of glitter with very little color. The rest were gorgeous. I'd suggest using the brush it comes with, your fingers or a densely packed brush for these eye shadows. As this will pack on the most color and give you the best use.
Overall I don't think it beats my Too Faced Natural Eye Palette by any means but it is something cheap that has some very unique shades. It is very shimmery though and so if you're not a fan I don't recommend this. But I think the shimmers give an individuality to these shadows and it'd be hard to find colors such as the orange, bronze gold and minky pink shade in one palette anywhere else.
Thanks for reading!
